The Introduction
Firstly, I wish I could say I don’t know why no one has ever done this type of marketing in recruitment, the truth is that I do know. We are such busy creatures that being different doesn’t really fit into our pre-recorded schedules. Also, recruiters are not usually the ones who write blog posts, normally that is reserved for the marketers. I have never met a marketer who dreamed of working in corporate marketing. Envision yourself wanting to be in marketing, where do you dream of working one day? Nike or Apple would be my top picks. These are companies who are never afraid of being different. Due to the success of being different, I think marketers should save their creativity working on projects that actually inspire them. The lack of passion is why every blog post you see from the corporate world is the same or leaves you feeling extremely exhausted simply from reading the title.
So, what makes me the expert and what is my experience in writing blog posts you might ask? Well I am a strong believer in everything happens for a reason and my first ever corporate job was social media management. This entailed writing blogs, scheduling posts on all social media platforms and trying to build that business's following base.
On top of that I have created 2 recruitment companies both still operating and have worked in recruitment for many years now but have also worked in the industries I currently recruit in for my whole life. Now, what makes this blog series different from the rest of the start-up recruiters and current recruitment companies out there? Well, I do not think or know of any company who is okay with being this weird and different. This is not an easy thing for a business to admit but I am also okay with this business being completely different, in fact if what we do ever becomes trendy watch us quickly swerve in our tactics.
Now, I do not think that the average person does not have the ability to be different in their corporate marketing tactics, but, when the average person works 82,560 hours in a lifetime is there much room for anything else other than following the rules? On top of that we have been rewarded for following the rules our whole lives, kindergarten, school, university and the workforce. It terrifies me when I meet someone who is so addicted to their programming that they do not even realise that their coding originated from the 1800s and prior to the 1800s if they had been born they would be an entirely different person today, a person who may have been able to stretch their imagination.
So, welcome to a place where we will freely address thoughts that we actually hold in our beautiful minds relating to work, because that is what recruitment is, it is a whole industry based around work. These thoughts will not only be from the writer but will come from the clients we talk to or candidates we interact with. We want to share what truly is on everyone's minds these days and that includes you the reader. Feel safe in asking questions that you may have always wondered about working, the workforce or things you may not have the time to explore. You can always feel freely in expressing yourself with us. Stay tuned for next week's post where we talk about our latest Instagram posts in greater detail: How to find joy in work.
This is Letters from a Recruiter, a place you can feel safe in being you.
